"Perfect storm" lead to sea louse outbreak in 2015

Researchers at the Salmon Coast Field Station, lead by Alexandra Morton, have been monitoring juvenile salmon for sea lice since 2001. I've been fortunate to be a part of this extraordinary team since 2006 when I first visited the Broughton Archipelago as an undergrad student. Last year, we witnessed the resurgence of sea lice in the region, after about 10 years of successful management and low louse numbers on farmed and wild salmon. Recently, we published a paper trying to understand why sea lice made a comeback, and what we can do to prevent the next outbreak.

Check out the video abstract below, or the great Coast Cast movie produced by Twyla Roscovich above, to learn more. Or if you're thirsting for some scientific jargon, you can access the publication here (email me if you don't have access and I'll send you a copy).
