Farmed salmon still a risk

Cermaq Canada posted a story on May 12, 2015 titled "Healthy farmed salmon pose no real risk to passing wild salmon, says top BC fish scientist". They link to a document by an expert in fish pathology, who builds a case for why farmed salmon are not a threat to wild salmon in BC. A group of researchers from several universities have felt the need to respond to that document as many of the claims are based on an incomplete review of the scientific literature. To read more about why these researchers, including myself, believe that farmed salmon may still pose a risk to wild salmon in BC, download our critique.

A juvenile pink salmon infested with sea louse parasites, collected April 18, 2015. Several studies have suggested that farmed salmon are the main source of sea lice for juvenile pink and chum salmon during the first months of their migration through coastal waters and that sea lice can cause declines in affected pink and coho salmon populations.

UPDATE June 12, 2015: The Vancouver Sun has published an article about our critique!
